the scotus has spoken

today has been amazing day

the roberts court will never be seen in the same way again

from now on, the liberals will never view john roberts the same way ever again

not that john roberts is perfect and he will probably disappoint all the liberals in the future like he has done before, but today, he has certainly become the unexpected hero of the health care story, when everyone thought kennedy would be the ultimate decision-maker

and it’s ironic because obama voted against roberts’ confirmation in the senate, roberts messed up obama’s oath to presidency, and there’s all this ~history~ between the two

yet without roberts, obama’s crowning achievement of his first presidential term (being optimistic here) would not have been possible

and it just shows how important bipartisanship is in politics and sometimes you have to go beyond pure political ideologies to get shit done

and now millions of uninsured americans will have health insurance, yay

i feel like i just said what everyone else has already said, but i wasn’t home all day, so i haven’t had the chance, so forgive me, ok, thanks

there was this point in my life a few months ago when i contemplated making a scalia and ginsburg friendship collage because i had no life

(this was also around the time i cried listening to miley cyrus’ “party in the usa” due to nostalgia, it was hard time for me, ok, i had to write three essays in a week, i had a lot of feelings)

i don’t remember my point anymore, whatever

so i might post some photos over the next few days that i was going to include in my collage, ok oh wait i might do a photo set or open up photoshop and make a real collage omg

From USA Today:

Beyond the law, Ginsburg and Scalia seek each other out.

“I have always enjoyed Nino,” Ginsburg said in an interview, echoing her comment at the hearing: “No matter how overworked and tired I feel, he can always say things that make me laugh. He can also say things I find provocative, even irritating.”

For his part, Scalia says he likes his colleague “because she is an intelligent woman and a nice woman and a considerate woman — all the qualities that you like in a person.”

An alumnus asked Justice Alito about the sources he relied upon in deciding ‘close-call cases.’ After noting his deference to statutory language and lower court rulings, Alito referred to the 2010 case of U.S. v. Stevens, an 8-1 decision in which the Court struck down, on free-speech grounds, a federal ban on videos showing graphic violence against animals.

Justice Alito, a dog owner himself, was the sole dissenter. He joked that this was because he let his springer spaniel, Zeus, decide the case by placing briefs for both sides in front of him with dog treats on top.
